Class Descriptions

 

The Pre Ballet (3-5 yrs) and Pre Primary (5-7yrs) classes aim to capture and nurture young children’s instinctive joy of movement and expression. Basic ballet skills, terminology, rhythm, and coordination are taught, practiced, and developed through creative movement, music, stories, games and mime in a supportive and supervised environment.  

Pre Ballet (3-5yr olds)  $210/semester

          Group A Tuesday and Thursday 3:00-3:30

          Group B  Wednesday and Friday 3:00-3:30

Pre Primary (5-7yr olds)  $240/semester

           Tuesday and Thursday 3:45-4:30

EARLY YEARS DANCE

CHILDREN'S DIVISION

The Children’s Division offers classes based on a syllabus designed to cultivate young dancers. It emphasizes development of body strength, and coordination, creativity and artistry, discipline and dedication. We take our training seriously and strive to create a nurturing, comfortable, fun and noncompetitive atmosphere in the classroom. English Ballet Theatre Cambodia streams dancers into levels appropriate for their age, level of development and dance experience.

 

Grade 1  $290/Semester

        Group A Wed 4:00-5:00 and Sat 9:00-10:00

        Group B Fri 4:00-5:00 and Sat 9:00-10:00

Grade 2  $290/Semester

         Tues 4:30-5:30, Thu 4:30-5:30 and Sat 9:00-10:00

Grade 3. $315/Semester

         Wed 5:00-7:00, Thu 5:30-7:00, Sat 11:15-1:00 + 1 Elective

Inter/Adv $350/Semester

Open Class Descriptions​

Intro to Ballet For Brand New Beginners 

If you’ve ever wanted to try a ballet class but didn’t know where to start – this is the place to do it! We will start with the very basics and work up from there. At the barre we will learn the main positions of the legs, feet, arms and head – gradually making our way to the center where we will work on adding turns, jumps, and exercises across the floor. You will be challenged to engage muscle groups that most people never use, to stand on one leg for a LONG time, to spin on the tip of your toe, to jump and fly with a smile, and to do it all to music. It will be serious fun.  

 

Dancers may take the class in Ballet slippers, or socks. Please wear clothes you feel comfortable moving in, preferably something form fitting so you can see what you’re doing.  


 

Ballet - Open Level

Open level ballet class focuses on basic vocabulary, proper placement, external rotation, port de bras, and freedom of movement.  The class will work to strengthen one’s control, speed, and clarity of movement; will introduce basic turning and jumping combinations; and will challenge the dancers with timing and directional variations. This class aims to give students a clear picture of basic ballet technique, vocabulary, and placement while allowing the dancer to find confidence in executing the combinations, and freedom in exploring the form. 

 

Dancers can wear ballet slippers for this class and a leotard and tights, or form fitting clothing. 

 

Contemporary – Open Level 

Open level contemporary class focuses on basic vocabulary, grounded placement, supple spinal movements, expanding and contracting, and freedom of movement. The class will work to strengthen one’s control, speed, and clarity of movement; will introduce basic floor work, standing work, and across the floor exercises; and will challenge the dancers with weight changing, timing, and directional variations. 

This class aims to give students a clear picture of basic contemporary techniques, while allowing for the student to explore their own expressions and ways of moving. Please expect to lie and roll on the floor.

 

Dancers can wear socks, or be bare-footed for this class. Loose clothing is Okay, form fitted clothing is preferred. 

 

Stretch and Strengthen – Open Level 

This class will use a mixture of Yoga, Pilates, and other forms of exercise that have been used by dancers to gain strength without losing flexibility. We will focus on proper alignment and muscle usage to maximize our potential for both upper and lower body stretching and toning. Please bring a mat if you have one.  

Class can be done in socks or barefooted – studio shoes can be worn if medically necessary. Expect to lie on the floor -- accommodations can be made for those who cannot. 

 

Please wear clothes you feel comfortable moving in.  

 

Covid Safety

For your safely we continue to follow our Covid protocols.  The studio is cleaned daily and barres and touch surfaces are cleaned and disinfected before each class.  We will continue to do temperature checks upon entering the studio and masks can be worn at the dancer’s discretion.
